At one time there was a very large congregation in Manchester and church services took place in St Anne’s Church in the city centre. In the 1960s, many Latvians left England for Canada and Australia, so there were soon no Latvians left in the centre of Manchester.
As we tried to find a new place to hold services, the congregation’s new meeting place became Bolton, for there a Latvian Welfare Association was still active, with its own club and assembly rooms. Now the Latvian Welfare Association building has been sold, but the Latvian congregation meets in the Anglican Church centre, coming together after travelling from places that are sometimes quite far away.
